Note: In a "Standard Configuration" test the machines are configured with identical disk drives (two 146 GB Seagate Cheetah 15,000 RPM SCSI disks), the same RAM size (2 gigabytes) and loaded with same operating system software (SUSE Linux 10.1) which has been configured with the same system tunables.

In a "Non-Standard Configuration" test the machines can have any configuration of disk drives or RAM and possibly different operating systems.

In all tests the machines run the same application software that was compiled with the same compilers and the same compile time options.
